The exciting beginnings of my career as a wedding photographer

As a wedding photographer, every journey begins somewhere. In my case, it began with a simple birthday party, where I picked up my Nikon D3100 camera with a 50mm f1.8 lens in hand. It was the starting point of an extraordinary adventure that would shape my career as a wedding photographer. In this article, I’ll share with you the key moments of my early days and the steps that led me to become the photographer I am today.

The first steps: a birthday party and rave reviews

My first steps as a wedding photographer took place at my friend Maxime’s son’s party. Armed with my Nikon D3100 and a 50mm f1.8 lens, I had only basic knowledge acquired from YouTube videos. However, the guests were pleasantly surprised by the quality and artistry of my photos, which encouraged me to explore this budding passion further.

Inspiration from a personal wedding

The positive feedback I received at the event got me thinking seriously about becoming a wedding photographer. My own wedding, a few years earlier, had already given me a glimpse of the magic of this profession. I remembered the emotion of watching the photographer capture every special moment of the day. It was then that I realized I wanted to bring that same magic to couples at their weddings.

First professional steps

To promote myself as a wedding photographer, I decided to advertise for free on the classified ads site “Kijiji”. I soon received a call to cover a nearby wedding. Once again, the positive feedback from the bride and groom and their loved ones reinforced my confidence and confirmed that I had made the right choice.

Fate’s helping hand: a golden opportunity

A real turning point in my career came when I received a call from a wedding photographer who wanted to sell his Fuji equipment. He had noticed my ad on “Kijiji” and was impressed by my answers to his technical and practical questions. Not only did he offer to buy his equipment at an affordable price, but he also transferred several wedding contracts to me. Thus was born “Olivier LG Photographe”, my personal business.

Professional development: trainings and collaborations

To hone my skills as a wedding photographer, I trained with two well-established photographers in the field: Sonia Bourdon and Sophie Asselin. Their knowledge and expertise enabled me to deepen my understanding of the profession, particularly in terms of post-production work, photo retouching and the use of specialized software. What’s more, I’ve been lucky enough to continue collaborating with Sophie Asselin, which has given me invaluable opportunities to learn and develop as a photographer.

Over 50 weddings and renewed confidence

To date, I’ve had the opportunity to cover over 50 weddings. Each experience has allowed me to grow as a photographer and to consolidate my confidence. I no longer feel the sense of imposture that I might have felt at the start of my career. My passion for this profession continues to grow, and I’m more determined than ever to capture the precious moments and unique emotions of weddings to create lasting memories.

I’m grateful to everyone who has encouraged me, trusted me and continues to believe in me. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me in this profession that I love so passionately.
